Scientific and technical issues related to food quality are more and more important and complex. The creation of an Egyptian Food Safety Coordination Structure is considered to be of great importance.

According to the general principles of food legislation, such body should act as an independent scientific reference body for the assessment of hazards and help to assure the correct functioning of the local market. It could also issue on application scientific reports on controversial subjects so that the competent authorities can take the necessary and proper risk management measures to assure food safety.

It is essential that the national bodies, the general public, and the rest of the parties involved have confidence in the abovementioned coordination structure; it is, therefore, necessary to assure its independence, high scientific quality, openness, and effectiveness.

This Proposal for a Strategic Plan for an Egyptian food safety system has been elaborated after being completely convinced of the transcendence of the work to be done and trusting that this effort shall allow to improve the identification and analysis of issues related to food safety and food laws, which are nowadays a concern for the country..
